Emese Borissza’s presentation on online discourses related to heart disease

The annual student conference of the Applied Linguistics Student Research Group, operating within the ELTE Department of Applied Linguistics and Phonetics, was held on April 20–21, 2026, under the title Pathways in the Research of Language Use IV.

At the conference, Emese Borissza presented the findings of her case study titled Heart Disease-Related Discourses in the Online Space, which is connected to the research group's work. In her presentation, she examined the role of social media in shaping experiences and social meanings related to cardiovascular diseases. Through the analysis of Hungarian-language content on Reddit and Instagram Threads, she highlighted how the relationship to illness, the involvement of relatives, the sharing of a common fate, and various forms of illness awareness are represented in online discourses.
